Northern European craft. Woven with conviction. Schlitzer Leinen stands for bed linen and table linen from one of the last remaining linen weaving mills. Made in Europe, GOTS-certified, honoured with the Schwurhand seal. Pure linen and half-linen for those who seek character in a fabric – not compromise.

Linen is the oldest cultivated fabric of humankind – and still the cleverest. It cools when it is warm. It warms when it is cold. It absorbs moisture and releases it again. With every wash it grows softer, with every year more beautiful. The long, smooth flax fibres repel dirt and stay fresher for longer than any other textile.
That is not romance. That is the engineering of nature, perfected by German craftsmanship.
Half-linen unites the intelligence of linen with the softness of cotton. The linen component cools in summer and warms in winter. The cotton component makes the fabric supple from the very start. Together, a weave is created that feels good immediately – and only improves with time.
The half-linen fabrics from Schlitzer Leinen consist of equal parts linen and cotton: 50/50. Not the EU minimum standard of 40 per cent linen content. But an honest half and half. This way, both fibres can fully play to their strengths. That is not a compromise – it is a conscious decision for the optimum.
Anyone who understands half-linen as “half a linen” has never felt it against their skin.
The Schwurhand seal is one of the oldest German quality marks for linen. It stands for tested fibre quality, genuine construction and reliable craftsmanship. Schlitzer Leinen does not carry this seal as decoration – but as a promise.
The “Masters of Linen” certification guarantees: European flax, European processing, complete traceability. From the field on the Atlantic coast to the finished fabric in Hesse – every step is documented.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) sets the highest requirements for the organic cultivation and processing of natural fibres. Schlitzer Leinen’s GOTS certification guarantees: controlled organically grown flax, processed according to the strictest environmental and social standards.
Tested for harmful substances, safe on the skin. The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 confirms that the fabrics from Schlitzer Leinen have been tested for hundreds of substances and classified as harmless – even for the most sensitive skin.
The bed linen from Schlitzer Leinen stands in the tradition of classic modernism. Clear lines, calm colours, timeless designs – an aesthetic rooted in the great decades of Art Nouveau, Bauhaus and Art Déco. Beauty that arises from function. Not from ornamentation.
The pure linen bed linen is sold under the brand name “Traumflachs”: 100 per cent flax fibre, woven in Schlitz. A fabric without compromise that demands – and gives. The half-linen bed linen combines this uncompromising nature with the soft accessibility of cotton.
Every duvet cover, every pillowcase is supplied with thread buttons and hemmed by hand. Muted, calm colours – from white through natural and sand to slate and light blue – form a union with the classical weaving technique that outlasts every trend.
Every design from Schlitzer Leinen bears a woman’s name. That is no coincidence. It is a bow to the power that resides in stories – and to the women who tell them.
The pure linen bed linen bears biblical names: Esther, Salome, Phoebe and others. Names of women who showed conviction in their stories – courage, wisdom, resolve. Like the material itself: uncompromising, alive, more beautiful with time. Pure linen demands affection and gives it back. Just like these women, whose stories have never ceased to be told.
The half-linen bed linen bears Nordic names: Freya, Frigg, Sif, Skadi, Hervör, Sol. Goddesses and heroines of Norse mythology – figures who unite opposites: strength and grace, clarity and warmth. Like the half-linen itself, which combines the intelligence of linen with the softness of cotton. They are joined by names from Greek mythology – Calypso and others – for designs that bring the Mediterranean to the North.
The naming is part of the brand language of Schlitzer Leinen: fabrics that do not merely serve a purpose, but tell a story. Every name a promise. Every design a character.
The linen weaving mill in Schlitz stands in a long tradition. In the Hessian Vogelsberg, linen has been woven for centuries. In 1823, the small town of Schlitz alone counted 176 linen weavers. The bleaching grounds along the River Schlitz were regarded as the finest in the land.
In the 1930s, when Bauhaus and Art Déco showed the world that beauty arises from function, many a weaving mill in Schlitz was reinvented, translating this spirit into fabric. Not looking backwards, but facing forwards. Not sentimental, but clear.
The Schwurhand seal, that ancient mark of the highest German linen quality, is not cultivated here as tradition. It is lived.
The aesthetic of Schlitzer Leinen is rooted in the classic modernism of the 1920s and 1930s. An epoch in which craft and progress were not opposites, but allies. In which a loom was not a relic, but an instrument of the future.
Art Déco, Bauhaus, Art Nouveau in its late, pared-back form – these are the reference points. Clear lines. Geometry with soul. Colours that hold back and are all the more effective for it. The designs of Schlitzer Leinen do not quote this epoch. They breathe it.
Where Belgian linen exudes effortless elegance and Austrian linen revels in baroque ornamentation, Schlitzer Leinen shows a different attitude: German-modern, clear, resolute. Like a piece of Bauhaus furniture that never goes out of fashion, because it was never in fashion.

Pure linen wants to be cared for. Like the lady of your heart. Like your beloved classic car. In return, it repays you with decades of faithful companionship. It does not grow thinner. It does not grow weaker. It grows better.
The bed linen becomes softer and more comfortable with every wash. Coloured linen tolerates temperatures up to 60°, white up to 95°. In daily use, 40–60° is perfectly sufficient. Do not use detergents with optical brighteners – they bleach out the natural depth of colour. Do not overload the machine; spin at 800–1000 revolutions. If desired, iron at the highest setting with slight residual dampness. Avoid the tumble dryer: air drying preserves the fibre quality and considerably extends the lifespan.
Treat stains immediately – dab up liquids, do not rub. Do not leave napkins with heavy oil or acid stains for extended periods. The same washing guidelines as for bed linen apply.
On first use, they may be less absorbent. This resolves after the first wash. Do not use fabric softener – it coats the fibres like a film and reduces absorbency.
The characteristic slight creasing of linen is an expression of its natural quality. It belongs to the material as patina belongs to a classic car: a sign of character, not of negligence.
