Vieböck hemp bed linen is the most sustainable fibre in our range — more robust than linen, more sustainable than cotton, and surprisingly soft after pre-washing. Pure hemp or hemp-linen blends, organic certified, woven in Austria. Overview: Vieböck.

Hemp and flax (linen) are botanically related. Both are bast fibres, both grow in temperate climates, and both have been used to make textiles for thousands of years. But there are differences you can feel in bed:
Hemp is sturdier. The fibre is coarser and stiffer than flax — hemp bed linen feels more rustic in the first few weeks. However, it is extremely tear-resistant and lasts even longer than linen.
Hemp softens more quickly. Paradox: although hemp starts out sturdier, it softens more quickly than linen. After five to eight washes, hemp bed linen has a feel reminiscent of well-washed linen — only with more substance.
Hemp is even more sustainable. The plant grows faster than flax, yields more fibre per hectare, requires neither pesticides nor irrigation, and improves soil quality. If linen is the most sustainable common textile fibre, then hemp is the most sustainable of all.
For sustainability purists. Anyone looking for the most environmentally responsible choice when buying materials will turn to hemp. No other textile material has a better environmental footprint.
For linen connoisseurs looking for something new: Those who already know and love linen will find in hemp a related fibre with its own character — firmer, more substantial, with a texture not found in linen.
For those with high demands: Hemp bed linen is the most durable in the range. If you’re looking for bed linen that will last 20 years or more, you’ve come to the right place. If you prefer a softer option, go for Vieböck organic linen bed linen or the herringbone range
Vieböck’s hemp bed linen, together with the organic linen bed linen and the overarching category of hemp bed linen, forms the sustainability cluster at Linen Lounge. Hemp and organic linen — two fibres, one philosophy: textiles that give back more to the earth than they take.
Wash hemp bed linen at 60°C. Do not use fabric softener. The fabric may shrink slightly during the first few washes — Vieböck takes this into account during manufacture. Best dried in the open air. See the ‘Care & Durability’ section for further tips. All linen bed linen in the main category.
