Linen Tea Towels

Linen Tea Towels – the Kitchen Classic in Professional Quality

You notice a good tea towel by the fact that it absorbs water rather than smearing it — and that after a year of kitchen duty it looks better than on day one. Our tea towels made from pure linen come from Libeco in Belgium and arrive in practical 6-packs. Classic design: understated horizontal stripes or checks, not loud, with style. We also carry glass cloths — the traditional all-purpose cloth of the hospitality industry.

Six Uses for One Cloth

A linen tea towel is the all-rounder in the kitchen:
Drying dishes: Linen absorbs water faster than cotton and leaves no streaks on glasses — the smooth flax fibre does not shed lint.
Keeping bread fresh: Laid out in the bread basket or wrapped around a fresh baguette, linen regulates moisture and keeps the crust crispy.
Covering dough: During proofing, a linen cloth protects dough from draughts and drying out without trapping moisture.
Serving: As a base for bread basket, cheese board or cold cuts — on the table, the tea towel combines function with aesthetics.
Drying fruit and vegetables: Spread out on the linen cloth after washing, salad or fruit dries faster than on kitchen paper.
In professional kitchens: Restaurants and bakeries have always relied on linen — the combination of absorbency, heat resistance and durability is unmatched in any other material.

Why Linen Is the Best Tea Towel Material

Linen fibre absorbs up to 35% of its own weight in moisture and releases it quickly — the towel dries between uses by itself. Cotton tea towels stay damp longer and begin to smell sooner.
Then there is the hygiene: a linen tea towel tolerates wash temperatures up to 95 °C — this reliably kills germs without damaging the fabric. In the kitchen, where hygiene is not optional, that makes the difference.
And the durability: flax fibre is one of the most tear-resistant natural fibres in existence. A linen tea towel becomes softer and more absorbent with every wash without losing stability. With proper care, it lasts decades — in many households, linen towels are passed down from generation to generation.

Wash at 60 °C, at 95 °C for heavy soiling. No fabric softener — it clogs the fibres and reduces absorbency. Air dry or tumble dry. Ironing optional. Bleaching unnecessary — minor signs of use are part of the character. Full care tips at Care & Durability.
Libeco is the only manufacturer in our tea towel range — the same company that also produces our linen bed linen, tablecloths and towels. As one of the last vertically integrated linen weaving mills in Europe, Libeco controls the entire process from flax field to finished cloth.
