Linen Napkins
A linen napkin is the piece of table textile your guests actually pick up. The feel decides — and linen feels different from cotton or paper: more textured, more substantial, cooler. Linen napkins absorb moisture instantly while barely feeling wet. At Linen Lounge you will find cloth napkins from Geniksa, Libeco, Hoffmann and Leitner Leinen — from the everyday napkin to the formal dinner.
Categories
40x40 cm (lunch): The compact format for everyday use, brunch and informal meals. Placed casually beside the plate or folded once diagonally.
50x50 cm (dinner): The standard format for festive occasions and evening meals. Enough fabric for classic folding techniques and napkin rings. At this size, the structure of the linen comes into its own.
Napkins in sets: Most manufacturers offer linen napkins in sets of 2, 4 or 6 — colour-matched to the respective tablecloth and table runner series. Geniksa and Libeco deliver consistent colour families that can be mixed and matched.
Linen holds folds better than any other fabric thanks to its textured structure — which opens up possibilities:
Loosely beside the plate: The most casual variant. Fold the napkin once lengthwise and place it to the right of the cutlery. Or open, lightly crumpled — linen’s crumpled look makes this a deliberate style statement rather than negligence.
In a napkin ring: The classic for festive tables. Roll the napkin into a loose cylinder and slide it through the ring. Rings made of wood, brass or ceramic set different accents.
Folded on the plate: For formal dinners and weddings. Linen can be folded into bishop’s mitres, fans or simple rectangles — the folds hold because the fabric has enough body. Placed on the plate, the napkin becomes the centrepiece before the food arrives.
Genuine Craftsmanship
Crafted by people who have learned their trade over generations.
Sustainability
Material, production, people – genuine sustainability. Fabrics traceable to the Atlantic coast.
Durable
Linen bedding can be washed at low temperatures and becomes softer with each wash.
Breathable
Linen bedding keeps you pleasantly cool in summer and cozy warm in winter. Bedding for all seasons.
Saving linen napkins only for special occasions wastes their greatest advantage: they become more beautiful with every wash. Those who use them daily notice within weeks how the fabric softens and develops its own patina — without losing stability.
On the formal table, linen napkins structure the place setting and underline the care that has gone into the hospitality. At weddings, they increasingly replace disposable alternatives: reusable, photogenic and available in colours that can be coordinated with the wedding concept.
And in everyday life? A linen napkin turns supper into a small gesture of appreciation — for yourself and for the family.
Care: Wash linen napkins at 40–60 °C, coloured variants separately. Soak stains in cold water before washing. No fabric softener, no bleach. Air dry. Ironing is optional — the crumpled look belongs to linen. For a smooth finish, iron slightly damp with steam. Full tips at Care & Durability.
Linen napkins pair with tablecloths, table runners and placemats to form a complete table ensemble. All table textiles in our category Table and Dining.
