The Belgian Table Throw Fisherman pure linen from Libeco
The Fisherman linen table throw from Libeco has its origin in a towel. The design follows The Belgian Towel, yet the designer drew this version for the table alone. Its proportions changed accordingly. Towards each end, two stripes of unequal width cross a flax-coloured ground in leather brown, blue and mustard. Between them the pure linen stays calm. Fringes close the cloth at both ends. Because a throw leaves part of the table bare, the wood keeps its place in the setting, and the meal settles somewhere between furniture and cloth.

Harbour colours from Flanders
Libeco has woven linen in Belgium since 1858, and in 2006 the royal house named the mill a Belgian Royal Warrant Holder. For Fisherman it chose a sturdy plain weave, since a cloth for the table has to cope with the washing machine as well as with dinner. The colours lean towards the coast, towards fishing villages and Flemish harbours, without ever turning nautical. Every Libeco fabric carries the Masters of Linen label, which guarantees that the whole chain stays in Europe. Oeko-Tex confirms that no harmful substances remain in the cloth. In addition, the Belgian Linen seal stands for responsible manufacture. Thus a striped table throw arrives with a long history behind it, yet it wears that history lightly.

Description

Fisherman, a linen table throw with coastal stripes

Fisherman consists of 100 per cent linen, washed, in a heavy quality of 380 grams per square metre. The plain weave gives the cloth body, so it lies flat and still falls softly over the edge. Linen also absorbs a spill and dries again quickly, which suits a table in daily use. The washing has already taken away the first stiffness. Over time the fabric grows suppler, while the fringed ends keep their slightly undone look. Since the stripes sit near the ends, plates and bowls find an open field in the middle. Napkins in sets of six carry the theme to each place. Fisherman belongs to the Libeco tablecloths collection, beside its sister throws.

Care

Coloured linen tolerates 60 degrees, white linen up to 95, yet a cooler cycle lets Fisherman last longer. Leave out detergents with optical brighteners, because they bleach the leather brown and mustard. Give the drum some room, so the cloth can move freely. Then spin gently and briefly, since residual moisture keeps creases at bay. If you want a crisp table, iron it hot while it is still slightly damp. Avoid the tumble dryer, however convenient it seems, as overdrying can shrink linen.
