Sizes and Use

Linen placemats come in two common formats:
30x40 cm — the compact format. Fits under a plate with cutlery on either side without touching the neighbouring places. Ideal for narrow tables and closely set settings.
38x50 cm — the generous format. Enough room for plate, cutlery, glass and a napkin. On wide dining tables, it works like a mini place setting that clearly delineates each seat.
Geniksa offers placemats in a set of 6 — an investment that covers the entire dining table uniformly. The muted tones (natural, grey, sand) can be combined with linen napkins from the same series or deliberately contrasted.
Linen placemats do not only protect visually: the material dampens the clatter of cutlery and crockery, absorbs spilt drops before they reach the tabletop, and catches condensation from cold glasses.

Three Styling Variants — With and Without Tablecloth

Minimalist (placemat directly on the table): The Scandinavian approach. Placemats on bare wood or stone, with linen napkins loosely alongside. The table surface becomes part of the staging. This look works strongest with natural-coloured mats on dark wood.
Layered (placemat on tablecloth): Placemats on a linen tablecloth create a layering effect — two textures, possibly two tones. The tablecloth forms the surface, the mat frames the individual place. Particularly effective on long tables.
With table runner (combination): A table runner in the centre, placemats at the seats. The runner provides the axis, the mats define the places — together they create a structured setting without a tablecloth.
