Natural Linen Placemats by Geniksa
Natural linen placemats by Geniksa keep the colour that flax brings with it from the field. Nobody has dyed or bleached this cloth. Its grey is simply the tone of the fibre itself. Laid out at six places, the mats seem to have always belonged to the table, and the matching napkins follow the same quiet logic. In addition, the heavy weave lies flat and folds cleanly. That lends an ordinary supper a certain composure.

Undyed flax from the Baltic coast
Geniksa weaves on the Baltic coast. Its style is plain to the point of purism. The reason lies in a love of nature: pure linen proves itself through its presence and its touch, so it needs little else. For the Natural placemats this idea goes furthest, since the flax keeps its own colour. Each Geniksa fabric holds the Masters of Linen seal. It vouches for manufacture exclusively in Europe and for testing against demanding standards. Eco Line and Oeko-Tex add a further certainty. They confirm that the cloth contains no harmful substances and that no chemicals have bleached or dyed it. The flax itself comes from European fields.

Description

Natural linen in its own grey

The cloth is 100 per cent washed linen, heavy at 240 g/m², from yarn of Nm 26. Such weight gives the placemats a calm hold on wood or stone, while the napkins fold with clean edges. Because the fibre is smooth and dense, it repels dirt rather than absorbing it. With every wash, moreover, the linen grows a little softer. Its fine grey tone sits easily beside white porcelain, dark stoneware or glass. So the set adapts to the dining room instead of asking for attention. The mill finishes the fabric purely mechanically and produces it CO₂-neutrally. Natural belongs to the Geniksa placemats collection and also pairs with the Natural tablecloth.

Care

Natural linen of this kind tolerates up to 60 degrees, although a cooler wash keeps it longer. Leave out detergents with optical brighteners, because they strip the natural grey and turn the cloth pale. Give the drum some room so the placemats can move freely. A modest spin, kept short, leaves the moisture that linen needs to stay smooth. Iron only if you care to, at the hot linen setting and with the napkins faintly damp. Otherwise the cloth simply settles on the table as it is.
