Ioulida, a table throw with Cycladic light

Ioulida is 100 per cent linen with a washed finish, weighing 380 grams per square metre. Its plain weave lies flat on the tabletop and still drapes with some weight at the sides. Because the fibre is smooth and dense, dirt finds little hold, and wine wipes away more easily than from cotton. The grey version gives the table a cool, mineral calm. White, in contrast, looks like whitewashed walls in the midday sun. In both, the open fringes keep the mood relaxed. Napkins of 43 x 43 cm extend the throw to every place. Care

White Ioulida can take up to 95 degrees, whereas the grey throw prefers 60 at most. Either way, gentler heat prolongs the life of the linen. Detergents with optical brighteners strip the natural tone, so they stay out of the drum. Load the machine loosely, then spin with restraint. A little residual moisture works against creases. Should you want it smooth, iron on a hot setting while the throw is still damp. Skip the tumble dryer, though, because too much heat can make linen shrink.
