Egyptian cotton bed linen

Egyptian cotton bed linen – luxury in hotel quality

Egyptian cotton is considered one of the finest and highest quality types of cotton worldwide. It is famous for its wonderful softness, silky sheen and durability. Egyptian cotton is used in particular for exclusive bed linen. Together with linen bed linen, Egyptian cotton bed linen is the gold standard in room furnishings in the upmarket hotel industry. We at Linen Lounge are aware of this and carry a range of other cotton bed linen from Europe’s leading manufacturers.

What does ‘Egyptian cotton’ mean? Egypt has one of the longest traditions of cotton cultivation of any country in the world. The same applies to linen. Over thousands of years, Egyptian farmers have cultivated cotton of the highest quality. The difference to normal cotton is evident in the length of the cotton fibre. The fibre of Egyptian Mako cotton (Gossypium barbadense) is longer than that of the most commonly used variety, Gossypium hirsutum. However, the cultivation of high-quality Mako cotton is much more complex, which is why only about 5% of all cotton varieties grown worldwide are of Mako quality.
