“Organic” is the new chic

Where linen can still be linen.

Cool in appearance, yet wonderfully soft and warm against the skin, Vieböck’s organic linen bedding from Austria is crafted in the Mühlviertel region of Upper Austria by one of the country’s oldest weaving mills. Christine Vieböck is the fifth generation to carry on the tradition of Mühlviertel linen craftsmanship. Her fabrics are simple and pure, with classic stripes and check patterns as well as modern designs – and a great attention to detail. Out of deep personal conviction, the weaving mill is committed to environmental protection and compliance with social standards. Vieböck uses only high-quality linen from certified organic cultivation (kbA). European flax from France, Belgium, and the Netherlands is mechanically refined in Austria and dyed with reactive and vegetable dyes. The craftsmanship of the weavers creates fabrics of exceptional quality – whether fine half-linen satin or non-slip waffle piqué with a natural sheen that is rarely found in organic linen. Very important: every fabric is woven, not printed.

About 30 kilometers north of Linz, in tranquil Helfenberg, lies the heart of Vieböck. Here, in the oldest weaving mill in the Mühlviertel region, around 400 meters of the finest linen fabric have been produced daily on eight looms since 1832. Christine Vieböck and managing director Christoph Kobler organize the entire production process from here—from European flax yarn to the finished product from the in-house sewing workshop. Yes, “organic” is the new chic!

Only European flax is used in the manufacture of their products. For centuries, the Mühlviertel region was a stronghold of linen production—long before “organic” and “sustainability” became buzzwords, the natural processing of flax was part of everyday life here. The flax plant itself is a marvel of frugality: it requires neither irrigation nor pesticides and thrives naturally in the temperate European climate. What Franz Vieböck began in 1832 as a home weaving business – he spun and wove his flax himself – is now a modern company that combines tradition and innovation without ever having gone down the path of outsourcing.

There is no mistaking the quality of Vieböck linen, as it is among the finest produced by European linen weavers. Vieböck is the first weaving mill in Austria and the only linen weaving mill worldwide to be awarded the GOTS and IVN BEST organic seals of approval—the strictest certifications for ecological and socially responsible textile production. The entire value chain is transparent and traceable: from the flax field in France to mechanical finishing in Lower Austria to manufacturing in Helfenberg. Vieböck linen is therefore much more than an alternative to conventional bed linen – it is a commitment to conscious enjoyment.

Vieböck bedding impresses in every respect.

A design language that combines Mühlviertel down-to-earthness with timeless elegance. With organically grown European flax, which is refined into fine pure linen—a fabric with exceptional climate-regulating properties that is also subject to sustainable and environmentally friendly production and processing. Ultimately, Christine Vieböck and Christoph Kobler, whose products clearly show that they have been created with care and dedication, as well as the down-to-earth attitude typical of Austria.
