The Workshop Stripe linen bedding from Libeco
Workshop Stripe linen bedding has the ease of a true classic. Thin stripes in dark blue and natural white run across a densely woven twill, close enough to read almost as a single tone from afar. Up close, the rhythm appears. The design needs no more than this, and its simplicity is precisely its intelligence. Because the diagonal twill catches light softly, the cloth shows a faint sheen and feels cool on the skin.

From the Golden River to the loom
Long before Workshop Stripe, Belgian flax already had its own story. In the Middle Ages, growers retted their flax in the river Leie, which earned the name Golden River. From the middle of the last century, retting basins recreated the conditions of that river. Today the work usually happens in the field: for several weeks the plants lie exposed to dew, wind and weather, until the fibres loosen from the woody stem. Only then can they be harvested and spun into yarn. Libeco, at its looms since 1858 and a Royal Warrant Holder since 2006, turns that yarn into this striped cloth, organically and under GOTS rules.

Description

Workshop Stripe, a classic twill

At 190 g/m², the washed pure linen of Workshop Stripe has presence. Its dense twill gives the cloth body without stiffness, while the diagonal grain lends a quiet lustre. Flax keeps the skin dry because its long fibres absorb moisture and release it again. In summer the bed therefore stays cool, and in winter it holds a gentle warmth. Libeco finishes the linen without chemistry, purely by mechanical means, so it arrives soft and creases less. Every wash then makes it a little more supple. Workshop Stripe hangs among the striped designs in the Libeco bed linen collection.

Care

Striped Workshop linen handles 60 degrees; white linen would even manage 95. Yet the gentler the temperature, the longer the twill stays fresh. Optical brighteners belong nowhere near it, for they lighten the natural blue and leave the fabric dull. Load the drum loosely and let the cloth move. Next, keep the spin cycle moderate and short, since moisture left in the linen prevents hard creases. When you want it smooth, press it hot while it is faintly damp. Let it dry on the line instead of in the dryer, where it could shrink.
