Peter Reed’s 1000tc satin is the densest cotton fabric at Linen Lounge. The extremely high thread count produces a fabric that drapes like silk, with a subtle sheen that changes with the light — luminous in daylight, shimmering in candlelight.
The feel is distinctly warmer and heavier than percale. Where percale cools, satin envelops. This makes it the ideal choice for winter, for cooler bedrooms and for anyone who prefers a cocooning sensation over crispness.
For comparison: most department store satin bedding sits at 200–400tc. At 1000tc, the density is in a completely different league — the fabric is virtually windproof, which is what creates that characteristic weight and drape.
Cotton satin and silk bedding share the glossy surface — but the similarity ends there. Silk is a natural protein fibre with near-zero friction; satin is a cotton weave that approximates the look. The advantage of cotton satin: machine washable, more durable, more affordable. The advantage of silk: smoother on the skin, better for sensitive skin and hair.
Peter Reed’s 1000tc satin comes closest to silk in appearance. For those who want silk’s look without silk’s care requirements.

Three terms that are often confused:
Cotton satin (what you’ll find here) is 100% cotton — it’s just the weave that’s satin. Easy to care for, washable at 40°C, suitable for tumble drying.
Silk is a different material — mulberry silk, obtained from the silkworm cocoon. Even smoother than cotton satin, but more delicate and more expensive to care for. At Linen Lounge, you will find silk bed linen from Seidenweber as a separate category.
Polyester satin is synthetic — cheap, but lacking the breathability and durability of cotton. Not available in our range.
For those who want the sheen of satin with a natural fibre, but not the delicacy of silk, Peter Reed’s cotton satin is the best choice.
