Winter Duvet
Finding the right winter duvet means balancing warmth and weight — a cuddly duvet traps body heat without pressing you down. The deciding factor is the combination of fill material, fill weight and casing. Hefel produces all winter duvets in Vorarlberg, in warmth class 4–5 at a fill weight from 300 g/m². Standard sizes 135x200, 155x220 and 200x200 cm are available immediately — custom sizes on request. The models below are compared by fill power, weight, and climate.

Down – the gold standard: Goose and duck down offer the best warmth-to-weight ratio of all fill materials. The fine plumules trap heat-storing air while lying almost weightlessly on the body. Loft power (measured in cuin) determines quality: the higher, the warmer at less weight. Hefel’s down duvets of the Alaska, DeLuxe and Platinum series each come as a dedicated winter variant.
Virgin wool – the all-round talent: Wool absorbs moisture and releases it without feeling damp. It warms excellently while also balancing temperature — those who perspire heavily at night often sleep better under wool than under down. Wool duvets are somewhat heavier, which many find soothing.
Cashmere – maximum warmth at minimum weight: Himalayan cashmere has the finest crimp of all natural hair fibres and exceptional heat retention. Hefel’s Cashmere de Luxe winter duvet combines 70% cashmere with 30% virgin wool — the lightest and warmest natural fibre combination in the range.
Camel hair – for noticeable weight: Breathable and moisture-regulating, yet heavier than down. Camel hair is the right choice for people who want to feel the weight of a duvet consciously — an effect that many find calming and sleep-promoting.
TENCEL® and innovative fibres: Hefel also uses fibres such as TENCEL® Lyocell (from wood pulp) and corn Ingeo® (from renewable resources). The KlimaControl Comfort winter duvet combines TENCEL® with a box-stitch construction that prevents the fill from shifting.
In winter duvets, the casings are divided into boxes. These prevent the fill material from bunching up and creating cold bridges — spots where body heat escapes. The more boxes, the more even the warmth distribution across the entire surface. Hefel uses cotton, cotton sateen or TENCEL® Lyocell noble sateen for the casings, depending on the series. The construction ensures that every square centimetre of the duvet delivers the same insulation.

Premium winter duvets with natural fills last several decades with proper care. The most important rule: read the care label before washing. Have down and wool duvets professionally cleaned — the fill structures are too delicate for aggressive washing. TENCEL® and Vitasan duvets are machine washable at 60 °C. As a general rule: a duvet cover is the best protection — it reduces washing frequency and extends the duvet’s lifespan.
All winter duvets from Hefel are NOMITE-certified and therefore demonstrably suitable for dust mite allergy sufferers. Full care tips by material at Care & Durability.
The winter duvet alone does not make a restful night. Coordinate duvet, pillow and mattress topper: those choosing a down winter duvet ideally pair it with a down pillow. For the wool duvet, Hefel’s Wool Classic mattress topper is the match. A linen bed sheet as a base additionally regulates moisture.
For the warmer season: summer duvets (warmth class 1–2) and all-season duvets (warmth class 3). The complete duvet range can be found in our duvets overview. Cover with linen bed linen for the best moisture management even under thick winter duvets.
