James, a linen cushion with a black border

James is 100 per cent linen, washed, and extremely heavy for a cushion cover. Libeco weaves it from Nm 58 yarn, so the result has real substance. The black border also frames the dog cushion on all sides. Inside, the shoulder bag shows herringbone in black and flax, with a border in the same colours and an extra zip pocket on each side. On the cosmetic bag, the border sits on one outer and one inner side, and herringbone lines it too. The apron uses the border as a tie at the neck and waist. Because the palette stays this restrained, James sits easily beside Hudson, Heritage and every natural shade.

Care

James tolerates 60 degrees, the limit for coloured linen, though cooler water treats it more kindly over the years. Keep optical brighteners away, because they bleach the flax tone and the black border alike. Wash it in a machine that is only partly full, so the heavy fabric can turn. Spin gently and briefly. Some residual moisture keeps creases in check. If you want it smoother, press it on the hot setting before it has dried completely. Even when it is tempting, avoid the tumble dryer, since overdrying shrinks linen.
