Noa linen tablecloth by Libeco
Think of the Noa linen tablecloth by Libeco as the darker sister of Andros. It, too, bears an Aegean name, yet it has another temperament. Where Andros lets its pale ground speak, Noa turns the relation round: deep indigo forms the base. Narrow stripes in natural white and warm brown break through it. Open fringes soften the intensity of that blue, so the cloth keeps something unfinished, almost handmade. It brings presence to a table at once, but it never pushes itself forward.

Indigo from a Belgian mill
Noa owes its evening colours to an old Flemish house. Libeco began weaving linen in Belgium in 1858, and in 2006 the royal court granted it the Belgian Royal Warrant. The palette recalls late afternoons on the Cycladic coast, when white houses fade into blue light. Even so, the cloth itself is entirely European, as the Masters of Linen label on each Libeco fabric confirms. Oeko-Tex adds its assurance that the linen contains no harmful substances. After every wash Noa grows a little softer. Over time its indigo settles into the room like dusk.

Description

Noa, a deep indigo linen tablecloth

Noa is pure linen, washed for a supple hand from the very first meal. Its deep indigo thrives on contrast. Light stoneware glows on it. Dark wood, on the other hand, merges with it, and a few candles do the rest. Thus the cloth carries any setting without turning into scenery itself. Libeco offers Noa as a pièce de lin in three sizes, from 160 x 180 to 160 x 325 cm. Six matching napkins measure 43 x 43 cm. Noa forms part of the Libeco tablecloths collection, where it answers Andros in a darker key.

Care

Indigo deserves a little restraint in the wash. Coloured linen like Noa allows 60 degrees, yet the blue stays deeper at lower settings. Optical brighteners would wash the natural colour out, so choose a detergent without them. Do not crowd the machine. Spin briefly and without force, because damp linen creases less. Ironing, if wanted, calls for a hot setting and a cloth that has not quite dried. The tumble dryer stays off limits, since too much drying shrinks linen.
