Auburn linen coverlet and cushion from Libeco
The Auburn linen coverlet began with images of summer: beach, light and water. Its designer wanted to link the summers behind us with the one still to come. Many customers had asked for a new decorative blanket, and Auburn answered them. The design is strikingly simple. Navy and bronze stripes cross an ecru ground, and the design asks for nothing more. A hint of the Mediterranean stays with it, even in a northern bedroom.

A relative of The Belgian Towels
Auburn draws on The Belgian Towels, another Libeco design, and shares its structure, though the coverlet weighs a little more. At the Flemish mill, in operation since 1858, the weavers stitch it down the centre. They hem the top and bottom, while the sides keep their original selvedge. Connoisseurs will notice that edge first. Since 2006 the house has carried the Belgian Royal Warrant. Its fabrics also bear the Masters of Linen label, a promise of purely European production, and Auburn leaves the loom CO₂-neutral.

Description

Auburn, navy and bronze on ecru linen

Auburn is 100 per cent linen, washed, in a heavy 460 g/m² quality. Plain weave and Nm 58 yarn give it a firm, even hand. Linen regulates moisture, so the coverlet stays fresh for a long time. In summer it cools, and in winter it adds warmth. Meanwhile the navy and bronze stripes give the bed a calm rhythm. As a bedspread or sofa throw, it brings a touch of the coast indoors. Care

Auburn’s stripes make it coloured linen, so 60 degrees is the upper limit, even though the ground is pale. Any lower temperature will extend its life. Since optical brighteners bleach natural colours, reach for a detergent without them. Do not overfill the machine; the coverlet needs space. Keep the spin moderate and brief. A little moisture left in the fabric prevents heavy creasing. When you iron, use the hot linen setting on the still-damp cloth. And although it is convenient, the dryer can shrink linen, so leave it aside.
