Description

“Etienne Linen Coverlet and Cushion by Libeco”

The Etienne Linen Coverlet and Cushion by Libeco is one of Libeco’s oldest designs. The designer says: “This collection took its time, and it is definitely connected to earlier collections. As I mentioned: with the specially woven design of the Etienne collection, it all began. The coverlet required a lot of experimentation, weaving and re-weaving, but once we had figured it out, the rest was not difficult. Because it is such a beautiful location – I doubt there is a better one in Belgium for photographing a collection like this – we went to La Brugeoise.

This Etienne design is where it all started, but it was never actually meant to become a bedspread. Originally, a collection of throws and cushions was planned, but I liked the pattern so much once it was woven that I wanted it as a bedspread too. We photographed it with the Tack Stripe and Canal Stripe bedding collections, and it also pairs well with Tahoe Stripe. So there are many ways to combine it. The bedspread has two stripes in ginger, black, and ivory at both the top and bottom edges. The lower stripe is also featured in the cushion. It is a medium-weight construction with a centre seam and fringed edges at the top and bottom.”

European Organic Linen

Linen bedding lets your skin breathe better. When it comes to our skin, linen is the perfect fabric. Thanks to its long, smooth fibres, linen absorbs a great deal of moisture and repels dirt. Linen is an intelligent fabric because it balances temperatures. Linen provides pleasant coolness in summer and cosy warmth in winter. The long linen fibres ensure that linen bedding stays fresh much longer. The linen fabric has been treated purely mechanically and is therefore very soft and skin-friendly. Linen treated this way wrinkles less while preserving the naturalness and all the benefits of linen. Libeco is deeply committed to organic linen and absolute sustainability in all manufacturing steps, which is why creating GOTS-certified linen bedding in the Heritage collection was a logical next step.

The Weaving Mill

Libeco received the Belgian Royal Warrant in 2006 – an impressive recognition of the quality of their textiles. The “Belgian Linen” quality seal guarantees a product made according to the highest standards of sustainable production. All Libeco fabrics carry the coveted “Masters of Linen” label, which certifies that they meet the extremely high requirements of this master class and are manufactured exclusively in Europe. “Eco Line” and “Oeko-Tex” provide the assurance that Libeco fabrics are free from harmful substances and have not been chemically treated, bleached, or dyed.

As a sheet we recommend the fine linen flat sheets and fitted sheets from the Heritage collection by Libeco.

Care Instructions

Coloured linen can be washed up to 60°C, white up to 95°C. As with all materials, washing at lower temperatures extends the life of linen. Avoid detergents with optical brighteners as they bleach out natural colours. Linen needs sufficient residual moisture to prevent excessive wrinkling. Do not overfill the washing machine, and do not spin too hard or for too long. If you wish to iron linen, use the hot setting on your iron while the fabric is still slightly damp. Although convenient, avoid tumble drying linen. Over-drying may cause shrinkage.
