Manitoba linen-wool mix from Libeco
Cheerfulness is rare in a heavy cloth. The Manitoba linen wool throw carries it without effort. Stripes in red, green and mustard run across a beeswax ground, warm as a late autumn landscape. Libeco’s designer admits that watching this collection roll through the factory filled her heart with joy. That energy still sits in the weave. It asks for a long weekend, a fire, and nothing in particular to do.

Two versions from one Belgian mill
Manitoba belongs to a collection Libeco drew from the wilderness, its colours and names included. The designer imagined these stripes in plain country houses and huts, rooms where textiles still do real work. On the looms in Belgium, the idea took two forms. Version one keeps the classic construction with its beeswax ground. Version two, by contrast, concentrates on red stripes and adds a contrasting reverse. Libeco, weaving since 1858, earned its Royal Warrant from the Belgian court in 2006. Its Belgian Linen seal speaks for sustainable practice, while Masters of Linen confirms European manufacture. So Manitoba arrives with a clear origin, and a cheerful one.

Description

Manitoba stripes in linen and wool

Linen and wool share the work in Manitoba. The linen, 70 per cent of the cloth, lends coolness and a firm, matt surface. Washed wool, at 30 per cent, adds depth and an even warmth. With 610 grams per square metre the throw has real weight, so it stays where you lay it. Mustard lifts the red and the green, whereas the beeswax ground keeps all three from shouting. Cushions follow both versions. One is striped in red, green and mustard; the red one has a contrasting back, and therefore two looks in a single cover. Manitoba joins the other striped designs of the Libeco throws collection.

Care

Before Manitoba meets water, take a moment with its care label: whatever it states takes precedence over any general rule for linen. Since the blend contains wool, we would lean towards a cool, gentle wash and a light touch throughout. Pick a detergent without optical brighteners, as these rob natural colours of their warmth. Afterwards, ease the cloth into shape by hand and lay it flat to dry, well away from the tumble dryer. Thus the stripes stay clear, and the warm ground keeps its mellow tone through every season of use.
