Marshall linen-wool mix from Libeco
The Marshall linen wool throw from Libeco keeps to a plain, almost industrial vocabulary. Its calm comes precisely from that. Linen runs lengthways through the warp, while wool fills the weft. A natural base carries black dobby stripes, then ends at both edges in flax-coloured fringes. Nothing about it insists. It lies over the arm of a leather chair as though it had always belonged there, quietly heavy, faintly rough, and warmer than its restrained palette suggests.

For this winter collection, Libeco went no further than a neighbour. Frans Tack has worked with flax all his life. His farm lies close to the mill, in the heart of the Flemish flax region. Between the old retting grounds and storage sheds, the Marshall pieces found their setting, since the design speaks the same unadorned language as those buildings. Libeco has woven in Belgium since 1858, and in 2006 the house became a Belgian Royal Warrant Holder. Every one of its fabrics bears the Masters of Linen label, a promise of demanding tests and manufacture in Europe alone. Marshall, therefore, reads less as a souvenir of industry than as a portrait of the flax country around the mill.

Description

Marshall: linen warp, wool weft, black stripes

Marshall pairs two fibres with very different temperaments. The linen warp gives the cloth its backbone and a dry, cool hand, whereas the wool weft adds loft and holds the warmth of a winter evening. Together they weigh 610 grams per square metre, so the throw settles rather than drifts. The cushions take up the same idea in two versions. Multi Stripe repeats the black dobby stripes of the throw, while the Black Flax cushion shows mostly black satin weave with one flax-coloured band along its upper edge. Both close with a zip and carry a decorative loop in matching colours. You will find Marshall among the other designs of the Libeco throws collection.

Care

For Marshall, the care label stitched into the throw has the final word, so read it before the first wash. Because wool runs through the linen, a cool, gentle approach suits this cloth far better than heat or haste. Choose a mild detergent without optical brighteners, since they dull natural colours over time. Handle the throw with patience, give it room, and then lay it flat to dry in the open air. Moreover, leave the tumble dryer aside. Such a quiet routine keeps the plaid soft and its stripes distinct for many seasons.
