Description
Vourkari, striped linen from the Aegean
Vourkari is pure linen, washed after weaving and heavy at 460 g/m², yet it drapes softly over the edge of a bed. The plain weave uses Nm 58 yarn. Because linen evens out temperature, the coverlet breathes in summer and keeps a pleasant warmth in winter. Its long fibres also absorb moisture readily. The asymmetric, striped design reveals the craft behind it, especially at the centre seam and the fringed ends. On warm nights, you can sleep beneath the coverlet alone, without a duvet. Its island relatives gather in the Libeco coverlets and pillowcase collection.

Care
Vourkari counts as coloured linen and accepts up to 60 degrees, although lower temperatures help it last. Detergents with optical brighteners have no place here, since they wash the natural colour out of the stripes. Before you start, leave the drum half empty. The heavy linen then moves freely, and a short, gentle spin keeps enough moisture in the fabric to limit creasing. For a smoother finish, iron it hot while slightly damp. Both cloth and fringes fare better away from the tumble dryer, where overdrying can cause shrinkage.
