Arctica linen tablecloth from Geniksa
The Arctica linen tablecloth from Geniksa wears its pattern in the weave. A fine houndstooth runs across the cloth, woven in rather than printed, and it looks the same on both sides. The yarn stays as nature left it, neither dyed nor bleached. Arctica follows the tradition of the great linen weaving mills, yet it belongs to no season and no trend. Some designs simply stand outside fashion. This is one of them, and the surface explains why as soon as your hand passes over it.

Houndstooth on Baltic looms
Geniksa keeps to a simple, nearly austere style. Affection for nature drives it, more than any taste for ornament. That restraint suits Arctica well, since its only decoration is the fine houndstooth pattern the loom builds thread by thread. Pure linen hardly needs more, because its presence and its feel argue for it on their own. Geniksa sources its flax exclusively from European cultivation and weaves on the Baltic Sea, carbon-neutrally. Masters of Linen vouches that the fabric meets demanding standards and originates entirely in Europe. Two further labels, Eco Line and Oeko-Tex Standard 100, then add their assurance: no harmful substances, no chemical finishes.

Description

Arctica, a houndstooth woven into linen

Because the houndstooth lives in the structure of the cloth, washing cannot wear it away. It stays visible for as long as the tablecloth lasts. Arctica weighs 240 g/m², which gives it a stable hold on the table and an elegant fall at the edges. Its yarn reaches a fineness of Nm 26. The dense flax fibre also repels dirt, so the everyday traces of a meal let go more easily in the wash. Finishing remains purely mechanical, and the unbleached flax yarn keeps its natural tone. With a matching runner, placemats and napkins, Arctica dresses a table for two as calmly as a long one for twenty. Care

Arctica keeps its natural tone well at up to 60 degrees; only white linen goes as high as 95. A cooler cycle, as with any material, helps the cloth last longer. Steer clear of detergents containing optical brighteners, since they strip natural colour and leave the fabric pale. The houndstooth itself needs no special attention. Load the machine loosely, spin with a gentle hand and not for long, and take the tablecloth out with some moisture still in it. Ironing works best hot, on the linen setting, while the fabric is a little damp.
