Let’s get cozy in bed!

Hyggelig in bed? It sounds almost like the North German word “muckelig” and aims to express the same: the Danish (and also Norwegian) word “hyggelig.” It is the comforting expression for coziness and security. “The cherished home,” “comforting,” “small but exquisite,” and “lovely” are further meanings for this term from Northern Europe, pronounced like “hoo-ge-lig.” The noun “Hygge” in its origin comes from “to cherish” and “to spread well-being,” but its message goes much further. “Hyggelig” is a general expression for a good sense of life with ample comfort and familiarity, as well as a relaxed way of living. Anyone who hears or pronounces this term in Denmark or Norway will perceive a pleasantly warm feeling that quickly spreads.

Ideal Sleep and Living Trend

Coming home to a “hyggelig” home after a strenuous day is exactly what one needs. A relaxing bath, soft music, and a good meal help to switch off from everyday life and enjoy a small vacation sequence daily. Especially in the bedroom, this is very important, as the term “hyggelig” becomes a small life philosophy. It is the inner attitude that makes women and men steadfast, relaxed individuals – or allows them to become victims of stress. This personal attitude can be influenced relatively easily. Those who have discovered the “hyggelig” philosophy for themselves can face daily demands much more calmly. The trend may also gladly continue outside the bedroom. Nordic-style furniture and home accessories, in particular, are enjoying increasing popularity – often including expensive pieces from designers like Arne Jacobsen, Poul Henningsen, or Verner Panton. The philosophy of happiness is consistently carried through, right down to table and bed linen. The natural materials attest to lightness and durability – especially linen bedding is highly sought after. Hyggelig in bed!

Hyggelig in Bed – A Warm Living and Life Feeling from the Cool North

When the living trends for 2017 were published, “Pinterest” revealed that “Hygge” hit the mark precisely. Could a new lifestyle trend be emerging here in Germany, continuing in home furnishings? An almost 300% increase compared to 2016 suggests where the journey is heading.

“Hygge” conveys warmth and well-being – whenever we think of it. It manifests in minds and homes, bringing soothing relaxation after a stressful workday. “Hygge” could also ensure that life is approached more calmly in Germany, just like with the Nordic role models. Hyggelig in bed. Ultimately, a relaxed approach is much more effective and brings astonishing results. The proof: Danes are considered the happiest people in the world. Their “hyggelig” way of life is certainly the reason for this. Let’s get infected!
