Cambridge carpet Mink pure linen from Libeco
The Cambridge Mink linen carpet from Libeco is a dark, warm brown with a soft shimmer. Laid on pale floorboards it draws a clear outline. On natural stone or tiles, meanwhile, it adds warmth where the floor feels cold. Hand-twisted fringes close both ends, a small sign of Belgian weaving craft. The carpet does not perform. It stays, and the room arranges itself around it.

A classic of the Cambridge collection
Among the Cambridge rugs, Mink counts as a classic of the collection. Its designer describes the construction as very robust, made for daily life in living rooms rather than for display. Libeco weaves it in Flanders from European flax alone, as the house has done with linen since 1858. In 2006 the Belgian court made Libeco a Royal Warrant Holder. Every Cambridge rug holds GOTS certification, while Masters of Linen confirms European manufacture and strict testing. Oeko-Tex and Eco Line add their assurance of a cloth free from harmful substances. Production, finally, remains CO₂-neutral.

Description

Mink, a warm brown carpet of pure linen

Mink is linen through and through: 100 per cent washed flax at 1000 g/m², worked as plain weave with a yarn count of Nm 58. Unlike wool, linen stays antistatic, so dust finds little to cling to, and the fibre repels dirt of its own accord. Consequently the carpet asks for less care than one might expect. For allergy sufferers linen offers a further benefit, because it binds no dust and gives mites no home. The fibre also balances temperature and moisture at floor level. Mink takes its place within the Libeco rugs collection beside Taupe and Wheat.

Care

A rug underlay is the first kindness you can do Mink, as it keeps the carpet flat and secure. Between washes, the antistatic fibre keeps dust at bay by itself. When a wash cannot be avoided, the limit for coloured linen is 60 degrees, though lower temperatures preserve it better. Steer clear of optical brighteners, because they would draw the warmth out of the brown. Then let the linen dry naturally rather than in a tumble dryer, where it could shrink.
