Cambridge carpet Wheat pure linen from Libeco
The Cambridge Wheat linen rug from Libeco has the colour of a field shortly before harvest, earthy and warm. It sits easily on wooden boards and on natural stone, adding light without glare. Fringes finish both ends of the robust weave. Step onto it barefoot and the linen feels pleasant, never coarse. Because the weave holds a layer of air, the floor beneath seems warmer than it is. Wheat belongs to those quiet things a house gathers and then keeps.

Belgian flax in an earthy tone
Wheat completes a trio. Together with Taupe and Mink it forms the earthy, deliberately muted palette that Libeco reserves for Cambridge. Inspiration came from the English university town. Libeco weaves the rug from Belgian flax, washed and certified organic under GOTS, a standard that also guarantees processing free of chemicals. The house dates back to 1858, and in 2006 it gained the Belgian Royal Warrant. Masters of Linen, granted only to European fabric after demanding tests, appears on it too. Finally, five sizes let Wheat cover anything from a bedside spot to an entire living room.

Description

Wheat tones in robust organic linen

Cambridge Wheat consists of 100 per cent washed organic flax at 1000 g/m², woven in classic plain weave from Nm 58 yarn. That weave produces a warming air cushion, a natural layer of insulation between floor and foot. The strong fibre makes the rug hard-wearing; in addition it stays hypoallergenic, antibacterial and dirt-repellent. Living rooms, bedrooms and studies all suit it, since it withstands heavy use. Pure linen also remains antistatic, so dust and mites find little hold. The rug forms part of the Libeco rugs collection.

Care

Give Cambridge Wheat an underlay and it will lie flat without slipping. Otherwise the fibre does a great deal of its own housekeeping. For the occasional wash, Libeco’s guidance sets 60 degrees as the upper limit for coloured linen, and anything cooler is kinder. Optical brighteners fade the warm wheat, so avoid detergents that contain them. The dryer, too, is best left out of the routine, because over-drying can shrink linen.
