Scotia Classic Linen Bedding by Geniksa
The Scotia Classic linen bedding belongs to evenings when the wind turns and snow settles on the window ledge. A muted tartan runs through the cloth in dark grey, quiet enough to read as texture first. Only on a second look do the checks emerge. Because the yarn takes its colour before weaving, the pattern sits inside the fabric rather than on it. Pillowcases follow in the same check, so the bed looks complete. By day, Scotia also lies well across a sofa as a throw.

Tartan from a Baltic loom
On the Baltic coast, Geniksa works only with flax from European cultivation. Its style is plain, almost austere, since the house trusts linen to speak through its look and its hand. Scotia tests that trust in an interesting way, because the tartan arrives through dark grey yarn alone. The loom does the drawing, and the check appears identical on both faces. Afterwards, Geniksa finishes the cloth mechanically, without chemical treatment. Every fabric holds the Masters of Linen label, a promise of strict testing and of manufacture solely within Europe. A small embroidered pine branch marks each piece, as was once the custom with good bed linen.

Description

Scotia, a muted tartan in pure linen

Scotia uses pure linen of 175 g/m², its yarn at Nm 26, the same cloth as the plain Classic designs. What sets it apart is the tartan, which grows from yarns of different shades as warp and weft cross. The result reads warmer and more structured than a single colour. Moreover, flax fibres absorb moisture readily and let it go again, so the bed stays dry through the night. Since Geniksa washes the linen and finishes it mechanically, the hand feels supple and creases less. A classic hem frames the checks without any buttons. Scotia sits among the plain and striped designs of the Geniksa bed linen collection.

Care

Coloured linen such as Scotia takes a wash at up to 60 degrees, yet it lasts longer at cooler settings. Detergents containing optical brighteners have no place here, since they would bleach the grey and leave the tartan faded. Load the machine with a light hand, leaving space for the checks to tumble. Keep the spin short and soft; a little residual moisture limits creasing. For a crisp finish, press the tartan with a hot iron on its linen position before the cloth has quite dried. Otherwise, simply let the tartan settle on the bed as it is.
